Our favorite com tam place. We always stop by when we are in Houston. Gotta love such extensive toppings for the comtam: tau hu ky (bean curd skin with shrimp), nem nuong (pork meatball), chao Tom (shrimp paste), and my favorite baked egg! It is located inside Hongkong Mall on the far west side (opposite side of the grocery store).

Tucked inside Hong Kong Mall in Houston's Chinatown, this spot specializes in Vietnamese broken rice dishes. I tried the C5 with charbroiled chicken and pork. It was both sweet and salty, and had a hint of smoke from the grill, which I really enjoyed. The pork was tender, balanced by the pickled veggies, and the egg cake on the side was delicious. At $14, it's a solid, satisfying meal--definitely worth a try!

The simple restaurant fits the same description of seemingly hundreds of Vietnam restaurants in the Bellaire section of Houston. Its store front is located inside the Hong Kong City Market complex. The mall storefront looks like a typical Pho restaurant with long metal tables and chairs. Nothing fancy would be an over statement. The restaurant offers traditional Vietnamese entrees in a simple, casual atmosphere. Our family shared three family-style dishes. They were pretty good. One was Shaking Beef, one was flat wide noodle stir fry, and the third was crispy egg noodle.

Hands down my favorite com tam place. I'll be so sad if they ever close down. I'm a simple gal who orders the thit nuong (chargrilled pork) with lap xuong (Chinese sausage) over com tam (broken rice). Located in the HK4 plaza. Love this place!!!

This place is an original inside Hong Kong City Mall and there is a reason it has been around this long. The food is just delicious. My go to has always been C5: roasted chicken, pork, and egg cake on a bed of rice. The chicken is incredibly juicy and moist. A little bit salty, a little bit sweet, a whole lot of yummy. The pork is well seasoned with a slight hint of char. The egg cake is delightful, perfect mix of egg to pork ration. And I love that the top is not dry (you know what I am talking about). While the meat and egg are absolute stand outs, one must not overlook the rice. This place uses the classic broken rice. The grains are much smaller than regular rice and you can definitely taste the difference. Each rice plate comes with a bowl of soup and fish sauce. Go and try, you won't be disappointed.

I like this place. A lot of things to choose from. Brings back memories of being in Vietnam except I'm paying in dollar not dong. Much more authentic Vietnamese food experience compared to your typical banh mi and pho places littered throughout the city. If you're feeling adventurous give it a try. The Spring Rolls here are really good. They also wont tell you it's a "private party" and refuse to serve you.

This is my favorite com tam (Vietnamese broken rice) restaurant in Houston! The plates are cheap and completely customizable with whichever kinds of meat you want. There's a bunch of options to mix and match - shredded pork, chargrilled pork or chicken or beef, meatballs, bean curd, baked or fried eggs, and more. The egg rolls are one of my favorite add-on options! The basic plate comes with broken rice and pickled veggies (cabbage, carrot) and fresh cucumber. If you're getting to-go, I would definitely ask for extra fish sauce (and check your bag to be sure they gave it to you because they can skimp) because the dish isn't the same without it. I've also had the noodles here which are good too. They're essentially the same concept as the rice but with vermicelli and slightly different veggies. This restaurant is in Hong Kong mall; once you go into the main mall entrance, go to the right and you should see it on the left. The inside is decently big but nothing fancy. Service is fine. It can be a little tricky if you don't speak Vietnamese, but there's pictures of the add-ons and the menu has English under the options so you could just point too.

I crave for Com Tam now and then. This place never disappoints. Their Com Tam Dac Biet is the special combo broken rice. It can be easily shared for 2. I find the fish sauce a bit salty. I never doused it all on the dish itself. If you're trying to find this place: it is inside Hong Kong 4 mall.

I was very satisfied with my com tam here! The portion size was huge and very cheap prices. I was quite indecisive when I saw the menu, and the waiter suggested that I can pick out any topping that I wanted to add. I got broken rice with charbroiled pork, Chinese sausage, grilled shrimp, and a fried egg to top it all off. My favorite part of my meal was probably the broth! I usually finish my whole plate of food, but the portion size had me stuffed. I also ordered the Soda Chanh (vietnamese lime soda) which I was quite fond of. Although I've had better com tam, I would for sure come here again if I wanted a quick bite after going to the Hong Kong market.
